“‘What’s in It for Us?’ — Man’s Brutal Honest Question on Marriage Sparks Internet Firestorm.”

A man has sparked widespread debate online after voicing his frustration over the constant pressure placed on men to get married, arguing that marriage offers little benefit to men.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the man openly questioned the value of marriage from a male perspective, sharing his thoughts on the responsibilities and expectations that often come with it.
Man Questions Benefits of Marriage for Men
Speaking in the clip, he lamented the heavy financial and social demands placed on men both before and after marriage. According to him, many men are expected to work tirelessly to accumulate wealth before they can even consider starting a family.
He also pointed out that cultural expectations often require a man to seek approval from the woman’s family and community, a process he described as both stressful and expensive.
The man further argued that the financial pressure does not end after the wedding. In his view, husbands are typically expected to provide for their wives, support their in-laws, and continue assisting their own families at the same time.
He added that aside from childbearing, he believes many women contribute little to the financial responsibilities within the household.
Part of his statement read:
“Go and marry, go and marry… what exactly is the gain of getting married as a man?”
He continued by expressing his frustration with the traditional expectations placed on men.
“You struggle to make money, then struggle again to find a woman. After that, you still have to beg her family and even the whole village to allow you marry their daughter with the money you worked hard for, and she may still come and disturb your peace of mind.”
The video has since generated mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing with his viewpoint while others criticised his comments, arguing that marriage is a partnership that benefits both partners when built on mutual respect and understanding.

Mixed Reactions from Social Media Users
The video quickly sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with users sharing differing opinions about marriage and the responsibilities that come with it.
A user identified as Roland shared a personal perspective, noting that although he once feared commitment, marriage eventually brought him fulfillment.
He wrote:
“About 15 years ago, I was even afraid of having a girlfriend, let alone getting married. I was financially stable, but as the years passed, I began to feel lonely. I started asking myself, if I died today, who would inherit everything I worked for? Eventually, I got married, and I have never regretted that decision till today.”
Another user, Danito, advised men to focus on their wellbeing, particularly when it comes to financial responsibilities within the family.
He wrote:
“After you finish training the children, they may end up giving 15% to their father and 85% to their mother who didn’t spend anything. Men, please take care of yourselves.”
Adigun, however, suggested that the real issue may not be marriage itself but the choice of partner.
He wrote:
“He is obviously hurt. Nevertheless, there are still many good and decent women out there. That’s what I believe. If you assume all women are bad, you might overlook the genuinely good ones. The problem is not marriage itself, but who you choose to marry.”
Another user, Ovuemax, argued that marriage can sometimes be disadvantageous to men, especially in certain legal systems abroad.
He wrote:
“Marriage is actually not very favourable to men if we are being honest, and it’s even worse in some Western countries. A woman can decide to end the marriage at any time, and the man may still have to pay child support. Even in cases where she cheated and had another man’s child, the man could still be responsible for paying support.”
