Man Sparks Debate, Claims Religion Has Done More Harm Than Good

A man has ignited discussions on social media after claiming that religion has caused more harm than good in modern society.

In a viral post, he argued that religion has “destroyed as many lives as it has helped spread the gospel,” adding that while it has produced some positive outcomes, the negative consequences are far greater.

Religion or Humans?
He criticised instances where marriages are ended over disagreements about church attendance, describing it as one of “the many absurdities of religion.”

He suggested that the problem may not be religion itself, but humans who created it—and at times weaponized it.

“Humans created religion as a way to communicate with a higher power. But they also weaponized it,” he wrote.

Historical Impact
The man highlighted the role of religion in some of history’s darkest chapters, including jihads, crusades, and widespread religious persecution.

“Jihads. Crusades. Religious persecution. You name it. It became a launchpad for global destruction. When people believe they are acting on behalf of God, they often feel justified doing things they would never otherwise do,” he added.

Advice on Relationships
He concluded with a warning for those considering marriage:

“The worst person you can marry is a religious person. Get yourself a godly person to be with.”

The post has sparked mixed reactions online, with many debating whether religion itself is to blame or if human interpretation and misuse are the real issues.
