Nigerian social media personality VeryDarkMan has criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima over the continued killings and kidnappings reported in Borno State.
In a viral video circulating online, the activist accused the government of failing to adequately protect citizens despite repeated attacks allegedly carried out by terrorists in the state.
Growing insecurity concerns
Reacting to reports that suspected terrorists abducted more than 100 women and children in the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area, VeryDarkMan questioned what the Vice President had done to address the worsening security situation.
“Vice President Shettima, you are from Borno State, yet every day your people are being killed and nothing is being done,” he said in the video.
He added that the attacks have become so frequent that many Nigerians have grown desensitised to the news. According to him, the normalisation of such violence has led to reduced public outrage whenever reports of killings or kidnappings emerge.
Criticism over leadership
The social media critic also questioned the political ambitions of leaders seeking re-election despite persistent security challenges.
VeryDarkMan pointed out that Shettima previously served as governor of Borno State and should therefore be fully aware of the severity of the crisis affecting the region.
He further criticised government programmes that focus on rehabilitating captured insurgents, arguing that authorities should prioritise the safety and protection of innocent civilians.
Public reactions online
The video has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some Nigerians supported his concerns about the worsening insecurity, others criticised his tone toward political leaders.
His comments come amid ongoing national discussions about the security challenges affecting several parts of the country.
“Let’s leave President Tinubu aside. Vice President Kashim Shettima, you’re from Borno State, yet every day your people are being k!ll£d and you have done nothing. Still, you are fight!ng for reelection. What exactly are your people gaining from you? Lately, any news about… pic.twitter.com/xHkdlA52MC
