A young lady has shared a rather unusual experience she had shortly after leaving an exam hall, sparking conversations online about dating etiquette and basic courtesy.

According to her, the incident began when a man approached her warmly, greeted her, and expressed interest in getting to know her. Wanting to be polite and not appear rude, she said she decided to give him some attention and hear what he had to say.

Ice cream incident sparks confusion

The situation, however, took an unexpected turn when she and her friends stopped to buy ice cream from a popular local brand.

While attempting to make payment, she encountered a network issue that delayed the transaction. During that moment, the man reportedly went ahead and bought ice cream only for himself before leaving the area without offering to pay for hers or that of her friends.

Reacting to the situation, she expressed disbelief at his actions.

“Even if you didn’t want to pay for my friends, I mean just ₦200 for ice cream, and you want to ask me out and expect me to reply your texts?” she said.

Lady questions social norms

The young woman later clarified that her concern was not about the cost of the ice cream but about what she described as basic courtesy.

“Guys, it’s not like I can’t afford ₦200. I can even buy 50 pieces if I want to today, but there are some things that are just common sense. Abi, am I overthinking?” she asked while seeking opinions from social media users.

Her story has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many people debating dating expectations, generosity, and first impressions when meeting someone for the first time.
