Akor Adams has admitted he expects more from himself despite scoring in Sevilla FC’s 1–1 draw with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 13th minute at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, but the visitors responded after the break to ensure both sides shared the points.
The goal ended a six-match drought for Adams and brought his tally to seven goals and three assists in 22 league appearances this season.
Adams reflects on missed opportunities
Despite getting on the scoresheet, the forward admitted he was disappointed that Sevilla failed to secure all three points.
“I think every point is important at this stage of the season. We work hard to get them. We got a point, but there are many things to work on and improve to reach our goal of getting three points,” Adams said after the match.
“Yes, we’re happy to have gotten a point, but not entirely, because I also take responsibility. There were many situations that could have put us ahead. We’ll just work on that and we’ll be better next time.”
Rayo Vallecano respond after the break
Rayo Vallecano found their equaliser early in the second half when Alfonso Espino scored in the 50th minute to cancel out Adams’ opener.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither side could find the decisive goal.
Focus remains on the team
Adams also emphasised that his priority remains helping Sevilla win matches rather than focusing on personal statistics.
“For me, the most important thing is to win with Sevilla. I work hard every day to win matches,” he said.
“Yes, scoring goals is my job, but at this stage of the season it doesn’t matter if Kike Salas scores or if Lucien Agoumé scores. In the end, we’re a team.”
The Nigerian forward admitted he still expects more from himself despite his current goal tally.
“We need to get points. But seven goals… I think I should have scored more. I’m grateful to God, but I’m not satisfied right now.” ⚽
