Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, with the Austrian becoming the club’s fifth managerial appointment in less than a year.
The 51-year-old takes over from Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed earlier this week after the club activated a clause in his contract before its expiration.
Glasner arrives at the City Ground after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season in search of a fresh challenge.
Forest usher in another new era
Glasner’s appointment marks yet another managerial change for Nottingham Forest following a turbulent period on the sidelines.
Nuno Espirito Santo began last season as head coach before Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira all took charge at different stages of the campaign.
According to reports, Forest opened talks with Glasner earlier in the summer, with negotiations accelerating after Pereira’s departure.
The club endured a difficult Premier League campaign last season, finishing 16th—five points clear of the relegation zone. However, they enjoyed an impressive run in Europe, reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual champions Aston Villa.
The appointment is seen as another attempt by Forest to bring stability to the club ahead of the new season.
Glasner arrives with a proven track record
Glasner joins Forest with an impressive résumé built across Austria, Germany and England.
During his spell at Crystal Palace, he led the Eagles to UEFA Europa Conference League glory after guiding them to FA Cup success in 2025.
He also oversaw Palace’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool, with the London club triumphing in a penalty shootout before his departure at the end of the season.
Earlier in his managerial career, Glasner enjoyed successful spells with LASK, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, where he famously guided the German club to the UEFA Europa League title in 2022.
Although Crystal Palace offered him a new contract, the Austrian announced in January that he would step down at the end of the campaign, stating that he was ready for a new challenge.
Nottingham Forest will now hope Glasner’s experience of winning major trophies and competing in Europe can help the club climb the Premier League table and bring much-needed stability after a year of constant managerial changes.
