Harry Maguire has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, with an option to extend for a further year, marking a major turnaround in his Old Trafford career.

The 33-year-old defender was nearing the end of his previous deal, but the club has now rewarded his recent performances by securing his short-term future.

Maguire’s resurgence has been closely linked to the arrival of Michael Carrick as interim manager in mid-January. Since then, the centre-back has started all 10 matches under Carrick, re-establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

This marks a significant shift from earlier in the season when Maguire struggled for playing time under former manager Ruben Amorim and also dealt with a thigh injury that kept him sidelined for several games.

Since joining United from Leicester City in 2019 for a then world-record £80 million fee for a defender, Maguire has made 266 appearances for the club. During that time, he has helped the team secure silverware, including the League Cup in the 2022–23 season and the FA Cup the following year.

His new deal signals renewed trust from the club  and could mark the beginning of a fresh chapter after a turbulent period in his Manchester United career.
