The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has confirmed that it will go ahead with its scheduled ward, local government, and state congresses despite ongoing litigations at the national level. The decision comes amid recent protests in parts of the country linked to disputes over the party’s leadership.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, State Chairman Leader Sampson stated that the Rivers chapter remains fully united and prepared to conduct its congresses across more than six thousand units, following directives from the party’s national leadership led by Senator David Mark.

“We are acting on the directive of our national leadership, and we have the mandate to proceed with our congresses,” Sampson said. He emphasized that the party has complied with all legal requirements, including timely notifications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The chairman dismissed concerns that ongoing litigation would disrupt the process, asserting that the ADC in Rivers State is fully cohesive. “There is no division within the ADC in Rivers State; we remain united at all levels under the leadership of Rt. Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaech and Senator David Mark,” he added.

Sampson also criticized INEC for allegedly excluding the party from participating in a recent bye-election in the state, describing it as an attempt to undermine the democratic process. He further accused the federal administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of seeking to weaken opposition parties.

“The ADC remains a credible alternative, and we are committed to strengthening our structure across Rivers State,” he said, assuring that the congresses will be peaceful and credible.

The ward and local government congresses are set for April 9, while the state congress is scheduled for April 11.
