Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
Obi arrived at the meeting with a delegation of South-East political figures, including serving and former lawmakers, as well as ex-Imo State governor Achike Udenwa.
What the meeting was about
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Obi explained that the visit was part of ongoing consultations focused on the future of Nigeria and preparations for 2027.
According to him, the discussion was centered on national issues and the need for broader engagement across political stakeholders.
“This is part of our consultations… on the 2027 elections and, more importantly, about Nigeria,” he said.
Ongoing political consultations
The meeting is one of several high-level engagements Obi has held in recent weeks as he continues to build alliances ahead of the next election cycle.
Recently, he also met with Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed alongside other leaders, where discussions focused on unity and collaboration across regions.
Focus on unity and national direction
Obi has consistently emphasised the need for a united Nigeria, noting that the country must change direction to secure a better future.
He stressed that his engagements are aimed at bringing together stakeholders from different parts of the country to work towards common goals.
“The country cannot continue the way it is… we need to come together and build a future that benefits everyone,” he added.
As consultations continue, political watchers are beginning to pay closer attention to alliances that could shape the 2027 elections.
