Big news for Nigerian football. The country has won the hosting rights for two major CAF events in 2026. 🎉
President Bola Tinubu approved the bid. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the announcement after meetings in Nairobi. CAF president Patrice Motsepe and other senior officials were part of the discussions.
Nigeria will host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, which is African football’s most important meeting, bringing together delegates from 54 member associations. Also, the CAF Awards Ceremony will return to Nigeria for the first time since 2017. That is eight years. Now, African football’s biggest night is coming back home. 🏆
The CAF Awards recognise Africa’s best players, coaches, clubs, and football administrators. Nigerian stars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are expected to challenge for the Men’s Player of the Year award after their impressive seasons. Osimhen helped Galatasaray win the Turkish league title. Lookman has continued his fine form in Europe. The Super Falcons, who recently won WAFCON against Morocco, could also feature prominently in several award categories. 💪
Among Nigerian officials at the Nairobi meetings were Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF president Ibrahim Gusau, and former federation boss Amaju Pinnick.
The last time Nigeria hosted the CAF Awards was in 2017. Now, after eight years, the event is coming back home. 🇳🇬
