The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on behalf of the Federal Government and signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja.
According to the minister, the declaration reflects the government’s respect for the faith and spiritual values of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.
While congratulating Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, Tunji-Ojo noted that Eid-el-Kabir symbolizes sacrifice, obedience, faith, and compassion.
He also urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the country and reflect on the need for peace, unity, security, and economic progress.
The minister further expressed the administration’s hope that the celebration would be marked by peace, joy, and a renewed spirit of togetherness, brotherhood, and patriotism among citizens.
