A man has gone viral online after recounting a disturbing experience that, according to him, changed his attitude toward offering strangers free rides during heavy rainfall in Enugu State.
Sharing the story on social media, the man explained that the incident happened in 2023 while he was driving along Zik Avenue during a downpour.
According to him, he spotted a woman stranded in the rain and decided to help by offering her a ride to China Town bus stop, a popular area in Enugu.
Recounting the encounter, he said the only conversation between them during the trip was when he asked where she was heading.
“I picked this lady that was drenched in the rain going to China Town bus stop from Zik Avenue. The only thing I asked her was, ‘Nne, kedu ebe ina aga?’ meaning, ‘Where are you going?’”
However, he claimed the situation took an unexpected turn after they arrived at the destination.
According to him, instead of leaving the car, the woman allegedly demanded ₦5,000 and accused him of “using her.”
“She told me if I didn’t pay her, she would shout and tell people I booked her as an ashawo and refused to pay,” he added.
The man said he eventually handed her ₦3,000 after finding the money inside his car, explaining that he felt pressured and feared the possible consequences of a public accusation.
He further stated that the experience left him deeply shaken and discouraged him from offering lifts to strangers again.
The story has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and concerns about false accusations, especially among drivers in major Nigerian cities.
