. A Nigerian woman has gone viral online after sharing a shocking story about the inheritance she allegedly received following her father’s death.
In a post shared on X, the lady identified as @Toniatuslim revealed that when she was 20 years old, she received a letter from her late father’s lawyer informing her that she would inherit $80,000.
Lady visits lawyer’s office
According to her, despite her mother’s concerns and pleas, she eventually decided to visit the lawyer’s office to finalize the process.
However, upon arriving, she was surprised to meet her father there looking weak and frail.
“I met my father at the law office. He looked frail and happy to see me,” she wrote.
She explained that the lawyer handed her some documents, describing them as standard paperwork needed to complete the transfer process.
“The lawyer handed me a few papers, saying they were standard forms to finalize the transfer. I signed them,” she added.
Shocking revelation after father’s death
According to the story, years later after her father passed away, the same lawyer allegedly contacted her with disturbing news about the documents she had signed.
She claimed the lawyer informed her that instead of signing for an inheritance, she had unknowingly signed as a legal guarantor for her father’s $80,000 debt.
The lawyer reportedly stated that accumulated interest had increased the debt to $210,000, which she was now personally responsible for.
“With interest, you now personally owe $210,000. The responsibility now falls on you. You will receive a call in the morning,” the post read.
The story has since sparked massive reactions online, with many social media users expressing shock, sympathy, and concern over the alleged incident.
Others advised people to carefully read legal documents before signing anything, regardless of who is involved.
