Senior Pastor of Global Impact Church, Yemi Davids, has called on female worshippers to adopt more modest dressing, warning that revealing outfits in church can be distracting and send the wrong message in a worship environment.
Speaking during a recent service, the cleric expressed concern about what he described as an increasing trend of tight-fitting and overly revealing clothing among some congregants.
According to him, Christians should be intentional about their appearance before coming to church.
“We should not be seeing the lines of your panties. It’s not right. Check yourself before leaving your house,” he said.
He also criticised outfits that he felt expose too much of the body, saying such clothing can distract other worshippers, including those seated far from the stage.
“I’m appalled to see somebody come to church with everything so tight. The top is only to your waist, and people sitting at the back can see everything. It’s not okay,” he added.
Davids argued that dressing influences perception, noting that revealing outfits may affect how women are viewed by others, including men considering them for marriage.
“What you are willing to show can make it appear as though you are willing to share it. It creates a certain impression,” he said.
He further emphasised that certain parts of the body should remain covered, especially in places of worship.
“Don’t expose your private parts. Don’t do that. You’re coming to church,” he stated.
At the same time, the pastor acknowledged that men also have a responsibility to exercise discipline, but urged women not to make it more difficult.
“But please, don’t destroy our discipline anointing… What we battle with outside the church is already more than enough,” he added.
He concluded by urging Christians to extend modest dressing beyond church services into everyday life, including workplaces, stressing that appearance should reflect their faith consistently.
