Popular Nigerian skit maker Cute Abiola has stirred conversations online after making an unusual appeal to members of cult groups, urging them to channel their influence and strength toward combating insecurity across the country.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, the comedian called on Nigerians to acknowledge the level of organisation and influence some cult groups possess, suggesting that such power could be used for the benefit of society rather than destructive activities.
“It is time for all Nigerians to know your power. It is time for all Nigerians to know that cultism is a good thing. It is time for all Nigerians to know that the cultism you are doing has a lot of advantages than the disadvantages,” he said.
Expanding on his point, Cute Abiola noted that many communities where cult groups are active are often the same areas grappling with banditry, kidnappings, and other security challenges. He argued that if such groups redirected their influence toward protecting lives and communities, they could make a significant impact.
Appealing directly to those involved, he said:
“Please, all Nigerian cultists, come out for us. Let Nigerians be proud of you this time around. You can do this for us. Please show your power.”
His comments come amid growing public concern over insecurity in parts of the country, including recent reports of mass abductions involving schoolchildren, teachers, and community members.
The video has since generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users questioned the appropriateness of his remarks, others viewed them as a call for young people to use their influence and networks for positive change rather than criminal activities.
