Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has dismissed reports of a rift between himself and his former running mate, Peter Obi.
Speaking during an interview on Inside Source with Laolu Akande, Baba-Ahmed insisted that no one would be able to come between him and Obi despite their differing political affiliations ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Nobody Can Create Problems Between Us”
Addressing speculation about their relationship, Baba-Ahmed stressed that he still holds Obi in high regard and values the mutual respect they have built over the years.
“Let me say that nobody will cause a problem between me and my boss, Peter Obi.
He can be in any party today. I still have respect for him as someone who governed Anambra State, as someone who doesn’t give the ‘shi-shi’, and we have mutual respect for each other, so nobody will come between us,” he said.
Different Political Paths, Same Respect
The remarks come amid growing discussions about the relationship between the two politicians following their decision to pursue separate political paths ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed, who served as Obi’s running mate under the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential election, has since aligned with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Despite their different political affiliations, he maintained that there is no animosity between them and that their relationship remains cordial.
Seeking to End the Speculation
Baba-Ahmed’s comments appear aimed at putting an end to rumours suggesting that the former running mates have become political rivals.
According to him, political differences do not diminish the respect they share, emphasizing that their relationship extends beyond party lines and remains rooted in mutual admiration and understanding.
His statement has since drawn attention from political observers, many of whom continue to monitor the evolving alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
