A survivor of a kidnapping ordeal has shared a remarkable story from his time in captivity, revealing how his loyalty to football—and to Manchester United—briefly distracted him from the grim reality of life in a kidnappers’ camp.

According to the survivor, one of the gang leaders handed him a mobile phone and asked him to install WhatsApp and TikTok. While carrying out the task, he quietly seized the opportunity to check something that had been on his mind for weeks: Manchester United’s position on the Premier League table.

Recounting the experience in a social media post, he said football somehow found its way into his thoughts despite the fear, uncertainty, and harsh conditions he was enduring.

“While I was in the kidnappers’ den, their boss gave me his phone and asked me to install WhatsApp and TikTok. I didn’t argue—I simply collected the phone. But while setting everything up, I quietly checked the live scores to see where Manchester United were on the Premier League table.”

The revelation quickly caught the attention of social media users, many of whom were amused that football remained important to him even in such difficult circumstances.
