Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential hopeful, Omoyele Sowore, has outlined the priorities he would pursue immediately if elected Nigeria’s president in 2027, promising swift action on electricity, security, education, healthcare, and institutional reforms.
Speaking on his vision for the country, Sowore argued that Nigeria’s challenges require urgent and simultaneous solutions rather than gradual implementation.
Focus on power, security, education and healthcare
According to him, his administration would begin addressing critical national issues from its very first day in office.
He stated that improving electricity generation and supply would be a top priority, while security challenges would be tackled using technology and a combination of short-, medium-, and long-term strategies.
Sowore also pledged increased investment in education and healthcare, insisting that both sectors require immediate attention to improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
Rejects celebration of first 100 days in office
The AAC leader criticised the tradition of celebrating a government’s first 100 days in office, describing it as unnecessary when citizens are already facing urgent challenges.
In his words:
“I’ll start growing electricity on the first day. We’ll be fighting to ensure that this security problem is resolved immediately, using technology and whatever medium- and long-term strategies are necessary.
We are going to start funding education on the first day. We are going to start funding healthcare. We are fixing our institutions from the very first day.
You’re not going to see me celebrating 100 days in office. In fact, if anybody places a newspaper advert celebrating my 100 days, I’ll find the person and make sure that nonsense never happens again. If you are in my cabinet, you are fired that day.
That means you don’t have work to do if you’re waiting 100 days before counting achievements. People are already suffering and dying before you even get elected into office.”
Calls for multiple solutions at once
Sowore maintained that no single policy can solve Nigeria’s problems, stressing that progress would require several reforms to be implemented simultaneously.
According to him, issues such as insecurity, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare, and challenges in the education sector must be addressed together if meaningful change is to occur.
His remarks have since generated discussions online, with supporters and critics debating the practicality of his proposals and the broader question of how best to tackle Nigeria’s long-standing challenges.
