Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia has sparked widespread conversations online after sharing her thoughts on what truly defines a woman’s success. In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the actress challenged the long-held belief that marriage and having children are the ultimate milestones for every woman.

Instead, she encouraged women to pursue their dreams at their own pace and refuse to let societal expectations determine their worth.

“Marriage is not an achievement”

Speaking candidly in the video, Etinosa stressed that marriage and parenthood are personal life choices—not achievements that should be used to measure a woman’s value.

“Marriage is not an achievement. Having children is not an achievement,” she said.

According to the actress, many women are unfairly judged based on their relationship status rather than their personal growth, career accomplishments, or positive impact on society. She argued that every woman deserves the freedom to make major life decisions on her own terms, without pressure from family, friends, or public opinion.

“She will do whatever she wants to do at her own time, at her own pace,” she added.

Success is more than hard work

Etinosa also reflected on her journey in the entertainment industry, noting that while hard work is essential, it is not the only factor behind success.

She acknowledged that many talented actors put in even more effort than she does, yet may not receive the same level of recognition or opportunities.

“There are some people who act far more than me, who work far harder than me, but I might be more recognised than them or I might be more successful than them.”

Referencing the Bible, she explained that success is a combination of effort and divine favour.

“Paul plants, Apollos waters, and God brings the increase. It’s not just hard work. Hard work alone is not enough.”

Her advice to women

The actress also shared the values she hopes to pass on to her daughter if she has the opportunity. She said teaching self-respect and self-worth would be among her greatest priorities, explaining that women who value themselves are less likely to accept disrespect from others.

“If I don’t teach my daughter anything, I would teach her how to respect herself, how to value herself.”

Etinosa further encouraged women to ignore negative stereotypes and criticism often directed at successful females. According to her, society is quick to question a woman’s achievements instead of celebrating them, making it important to stay focused rather than seeking validation from others.

She concluded with a message of encouragement:

“Stay grounded. Stay focused. Study people who have made it ahead of you. Do not envy. Be inspired. Do not be jealous.”

The actress’s comments have continued to generate mixed reactions online, with many agreeing that a woman’s success should not be measured solely by marriage or motherhood, while others maintain that both remain significant life milestones.
