If Aliko Dangote cannot find workers in Nigeria, then something is truly wrong.
That is the message from former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun. And she is not guessing. She heard it straight from the man himself. 🗣️
“I had a conversation with Dangote recently, and he told me it’s not that he wants to employ foreigners, but he can’t get staff in Nigeria,” Adeosun said on Channels Television’s The Platform. 📺
Meanwhile, she noted that CVs are everywhere. An army of people looking for work. Every day, she sees piles of applications. But the ones hiring cannot find the ones they need. 🤷🏽♀️
This is not the first time someone has said this. Just recently, the CEO of Moniepoint made a similar complaint many applicants, but very few with the practical and technical skills for the job.
So what is the problem?
Adeosun says it is structural. Something is broken between the classroom and the workplace. People are graduating. Certificates are being collected. But the skills employers are crying out for? Missing. 🎓❌
The result is a painful paradox. Too many people jobless. Too many vacancies unfilled. And companies like Dangote’s left with no choice but to look elsewhere. 👀
The conversation is now shifting from “there are no jobs” to “there are no qualified people for the jobs that exist.” And that is a much harder problem to solve. 💔
