President of Ghana, John Mahama, has highlighted how government spending can ripple through the economy, explaining that payments made to contractors often benefit many other sectors beyond the original project.

According to him, when government pays contractors, the money doesn’t just sit with them — it spreads through the economy and touches different people and businesses.

From car dealers to fashion sellers, hairdressers, jewelry and handbag vendors… everyone eventually feels the impact as money keeps circulating.

But one line is what has people talking the most:

“Even wives and side chicks benefit…”

A statement meant to illustrate how widespread spending can be — now turning into a full online debate.

Is it just economics explained in a relatable way… or a poor choice of words?
