Controversial Nigerian social commentator VeryDarkMan has stirred fresh reactions online after publicly calling out activist and politician Omoyele Sowore over a remand case involving an unnamed individual.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, VeryDarkMan claimed he facilitated the remand of the individual at Keffi Prison and openly dared Sowore to intervene and secure the person’s release.
“Sowore, I have sent another person to Keffi Prison. He has been remanded until the 28th of this month. So I dare you to go and try to release him, let me see,” he said.
The comment appears to reference Sowore’s long-standing stance against pre-trial detention, where he has previously argued that individuals should not be remanded in custody before being convicted by a court of law.
Doubling down, VeryDarkMan accused the activist of inconsistency, urging him to act in line with his past statements.
“Get ready to shout ‘oppression.’ In one of your interviews, you said nobody deserves to be remanded until convicted. Now go and free him,” he added.
He further argued that activism should prioritise tackling serious crimes rather than defending individuals accused of wrongdoing, warning against what he described as “masking issues as oppression.”
