Aisha Achimugu, founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, has insisted that her wealth is self-made and not connected to political figures, as she speaks out amid ongoing scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
She made the clarification during an interview, pushing back against claims linking her business success and lifestyle to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“I started my company in 2001”
She explained that her business journey began over two decades ago, stressing that her success was built independently.
According to her, she comes from a respectable background and has been active in business since 2001, long before her current public attention.
She also addressed claims suggesting her wealth came through political connections, firmly denying any such link.

The businesswoman said her relationships with high-profile individuals developed after she had already established herself in business, not as a foundation for her success.
She also referenced her widely discussed 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, which was attended by several prominent Nigerians, saying it reflected her network built over years of work.
EFCC case and allegations
She is currently facing legal proceedings following her arrest in 2025 after being declared wanted by the EFCC.
Reports have also circulated about alleged financial irregularities involving millions of dollars, which she has denied, insisting that only personal and family funds were discovered.
