“I Didn’t Think I’d Make It Out”: Kidnap Survivor Recounts Terrifying Days in Captivity

A Nigerian man has recounted a terrifying experience of being abducted by armed kidnappers while working as a farm manager in Ekiti State in October 2025.
Speaking about the ordeal during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the survivor described how the attackers suddenly stormed the farm and opened fire shortly after arriving.
Kidnappers demand ₦55 million ransom
According to him, one of the victims was shot almost immediately, a moment that left him convinced he might not survive the attack.
He said the kidnappers ordered him to call his family and demand ₦55 million for his release, warning that failure to pay the ransom would cost him his life.
The man also revealed that he and several other captives were forced to carry the body of the victim who had been shot and move it into the nearby bush.
“I was kidnapped in October 2025 in Ekiti State where I was working as a farm manager. Immediately the bandits burst in, they shot the guy twice — one in the stomach and one in the chest. I thought it was a joke. I started urinating on myself because I thought I was going to die,” he recalled.
More victims brought to the camp
While in captivity, the man said the kidnappers later brought dozens of additional victims to the camp. According to him, the group had reportedly been abducted during a violent raid on a church gathering.
He explained that the victims included men, women, elderly people, and children who had been taken from a church service after gunshots were heard during the attack.
The survivor said the group consisted of about 38 people, who were held in the kidnappers’ camp for several days before eventually being released.
Claims about ransom payment
He further alleged that one of the kidnappers’ aides, whom he described as an errand boy, later told the captives that the ransom for the church victims had been paid by authorities from Kwara State.
According to the claim, about ₦350 million was allegedly paid to secure the release of the 38 abducted individuals. However, the statement has not been independently verified.
The survivor’s account has since drawn widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the growing security challenges and the trauma experienced by victims of kidnapping across the country.
