UK-Based Nigerian Woman Sparks Reactions After Opening Up About Struggles Abroad
A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has sparked widespread reactions online after sharing an emotional account of the challenges she has faced since relocating abroad.
In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the woman expressed frustration over what she described as years of hardship, discrimination, and the constant struggle to make ends meet despite working multiple jobs.
“Life has been extremely difficult”
Speaking candidly about her experience, she said life in the UK has not matched the expectations many people often associate with relocating abroad.
According to her, she has taken on several demanding jobs, including cleaning and care work, in an effort to support herself, yet continues to face financial and emotional challenges.
“I don’t know why God punished me by making me a Nigerian. The worst thing that has happened to me is being Nigerian. Since moving to the UK, life has been extremely difficult,” she said.
Claims of discrimination and mistreatment
The woman further alleged that she has experienced various forms of mistreatment while living abroad.
She claimed that despite her efforts to build a better life, she has endured bullying, verbal abuse, and even physical assault.
“I’ve worked as a cleaner, a care worker, cleaned dirt and taken on all sorts of jobs just to survive, yet life remains a struggle. I have been bullied, insulted, and even slapped,” she stated.
Caught between two realities
While expressing disappointment over her experiences in the UK, the woman also explained why returning to Nigeria is not currently an option she is willing to consider.
According to her, concerns about insecurity and violence in parts of the country leave her feeling trapped between two difficult realities.
“At the same time, I don’t feel safe returning to Nigeria because of the killings and insecurity,” she added.

Some users sympathised with her struggles and pointed to the difficulties many migrants face while trying to establish themselves in foreign countries. Others criticised her comments about Nigeria, arguing that personal hardships should not be used to condemn an entire nation.
