A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing his experience with a neighbour who repeatedly asked for favours shortly after moving into his compound.
The story, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @lizzyjollof, detailed how the woman approached him on the very day she moved in.
From a simple request to constant borrowing
According to him, the neighbour introduced herself and immediately asked if he had spaghetti or macaroni, explaining that her daughter couldn’t sleep without eating.
Although he had some at home, he chose to decline.
“I actually had spaghetti, but I told her I didn’t, because I’ve learned that you don’t meet every need—especially when it’s coming from a stranger,” he said.
However, what started as a seemingly harmless request soon became a pattern. He claimed the neighbour began asking for various items, including seasoning cubes, table water, a phone charger, a blender, and even a power bank.
When things went too far
The situation escalated when she reportedly borrowed ₦20,000 from him and failed to repay it. Not long after, she returned to request an additional ₦30,000.
That, he said, was where he drew the line.
“After that, everything in my house suddenly became ‘finished.’ I would always tell her I was using my charger, my power bank—everything,” he added.
Questions over her intentions
He further revealed that he later discovered the woman had a partner who supported her financially, which made him question why she kept borrowing items and money.
