“Being Single Is Not a Choice” — Nigerian Lady Sparks Reactions After Emotional Video Goes Viral

A Nigerian lady has triggered widespread reactions online after openly expressing her frustration about being single and her desire for a romantic relationship.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she spoke candidly about her struggles with dating, challenging the popular belief that being single is always a personal choice.

She insisted that, for many people, singlehood is not voluntary but a situation they find themselves in despite wanting companionship.

“Being single is not a choice, being single is not a choice. I no see who go date me, na wetin make most of us dey pretend,” she said.

The lady went on to express emotional frustration about her love life, saying that despite trying to stay positive, she has not been able to find a partner.

She also addressed the growing narrative around self-love and independence, arguing that while self-love is important, it does not erase the human desire for companionship.

“Your happiness doesn’t revolve around a man, your happiness does not revolve around a man, go and heal oo,” she said. “Apart from self-love, happiness revolves around a man, and that’s the truth.”

Her final remarks, in which she admitted she was tired of being alone and genuinely wants a relationship, have further fueled debate online.

The video has since divided social media users. While some sympathised with her honesty and related to her feelings of loneliness, others argued that happiness should not depend on having a romantic partner and should instead come from personal fulfilment.

As reactions continue to pour in, the clip has become another talking point in ongoing conversations about love, loneliness, and modern dating expectations.
