A Nigerian man has sparked emotional reactions online after recounting a touching encounter with a woman he met on a flight from Abuja to Lagos, where she opened up about her troubled marriage and emotional struggles within her faith community.

The man, who shared the experience on X (formerly Twitter), said the woman sat beside him during the flight and quietly wept for part of the journey. He described her tears as silent but deeply revealing of emotional pain.

According to him, she later apologised for crying and revealed that she had recently discovered her husband was cheating on her with someone within their church.

The revelation reportedly led to a long and emotional conversation between them mid-flight. During the discussion, the woman raised difficult questions about faith, marriage, and emotional endurance among Christians.

“Do you think Christians stay in bad marriages too long because they’re scared of disappointing God?” she asked.

The man said he was momentarily lost for words, as the question left him reflecting deeply.

She also expressed frustration over the advice she had been receiving from people around her.

“Everybody keeps telling me to pray harder, forgive faster, fight for my home… but nobody asks if I’m emotionally surviving,” she said.

According to him, those words stayed with him long after the conversation ended.

He noted that many people often praise sacrifice in marriage without fully considering the emotional toll it can take on the person enduring it.

He added that emotional pain can feel even more complicated within religious communities, where individuals are sometimes expected to endure hardship quietly while still appearing spiritually strong.
