A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing her disappointment over how her younger sister reportedly spent ₦50,000 she sent to support her school expenses and allowance.
The lady, identified as @Miss-Remi on X, recounted the incident in a post that quickly gained attention from social media users.
According to her, she had ₦100,000 left in her account and was considering several important expenses. She revealed that she had been craving a visit to her favorite restaurant, while also needing about ₦50,000 to process her school transcript and language proficiency certificate.
In addition, she planned to purchase a chair worth ₦45,000.
However, after opening WhatsApp, she received a message from her younger sister requesting financial assistance for her allowance and a school project. The total amount needed was ₦50,000.
Wanting to help, she decided to send the money to her sister despite her own pending expenses. She then used part of her remaining funds to buy data worth ₦20,000 and renew her X subscription.
The situation took an unexpected turn when she later spoke with her sister and casually asked what she was eating.
To her surprise, her sister revealed that she was enjoying shawarma and parfait, allegedly purchased with part of the money that had been sent earlier.
The response left the lady feeling conflicted and disappointed.
Expressing her emotions, she wrote:
“I don’t know how to feel. I’m not angry. But I feel sorry for myself.”
Her post has since generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating whether the younger sister misused the funds or simply decided to treat herself after receiving the money.
Others sympathized with the lady, noting that she sacrificed her own needs to assist a family member, only to discover that the money may not have been spent entirely for its intended purpose.
