Nigerian Lady Shares Hilarious Church Mishap After Falling Asleep Beside the Altar

A Nigerian lady has left social media users amused after recounting an embarrassing experience she had during a church service.

In a post shared on X, the user, @Ola_sun_kanmi, revealed that she accidentally fell asleep beside the altar after joining a group of elderly worshippers during a prayer session.

How It Happened

According to her, the prayer session eventually came to an end and everyone quietly returned to their seats. Unaware of what was happening around her, she remained fast asleep near the altar.

The situation only became apparent when an usher approached and tapped her awake after the clergyman reportedly asked about her presence.

Recalling the awkward moment, she said she woke up and instinctively stretched in front of the entire congregation before realizing where she was.

“I woke up and stretched in front of the whole church. I was still stretching when I became fully aware of my environment.

“I froze for a second before quietly looking for the nearest seat. The embarrassment!” she wrote.

Social Media Reactions

The post quickly sparked reactions from amused social media users, many of whom joked about how difficult it would be to recover from such a public moment.

One user, Mr Kingsley, commented:

“You can imagine the premium embarrassment. To be seen and known by the whole church as the person who slept beside the altar. Some people might even change churches after that incident.”

Another user, Uche Agali, jokingly asked:

“You thought you were on your bed, abi?”

Thinkz added:

“You actually stretched? How comfortable were you?”

Real Talk also shared a similar experience, writing:

“Oh my God, yours was even sweet. Sometimes I doze off for a few minutes, but my mind always wakes me up before anything embarrassing happens.”

The lighthearted story has continued to entertain netizens, with many admitting they could easily imagine themselves in a similar situation.
