“My Wife Is the Head of My Family” — Baba Elesho Sparks Reactions With Remark on Home Leadership
Veteran Nollywood actor Adewale Elesho Adeoye, popularly known as Baba Elesho, has stirred conversations online after revealing that his wife plays a leading role in his family decisions.
The actor made the disclosure during a recent interview, where he opened up about a personal experience involving his mother, his wife, and how he handles family responsibilities at home.
Caring for His Mother
Baba Elesho explained that his mother had been battling an eye condition for several years and had been staying with one of his younger siblings during that period.
Although she was not living with him, he said he remained actively involved in her care, ensuring he supported her financially and checked on her regularly.
Emotional Visit and Decision to Move Her
The actor recounted an emotional visit to his mother, during which he realized she was deeply unhappy with her living arrangements.
According to him, the moment was quite painful as his mother expressed her frustration about her situation.
He said:
“The day I went to bring her from my younger sibling’s home, I had gone there to check on her and perform my duty as a son. My mum said she would rather be thrown into the sea than remain where she was because she wasn’t comfortable there.”
Following that conversation, he decided to take her to Lagos.
Why He Spoke to His Wife First
However, upon arriving home, Baba Elesho said he did not immediately bring his mother inside.
Instead, he left her in the car and went upstairs to inform his wife first before taking any further steps.
He explained:
“It was on Sunday, I went upstairs to meet my wife, prostrated and told her I had a visitor. She asked who, I replied Alhaja.”
According to him, his wife asked questions about the situation, giving him the opportunity to explain everything in detail, including his mother’s condition and the urgency of the situation.
“She asked what happened and I explained everything. I told her that my mum said if there was nowhere else to take her, I should throw her into the sea, and that was why I brought her.”

Baba Elesho explained that involving his wife before bringing his mother into the home was intentional, stressing that decisions affecting the household should be made with mutual understanding.
He emphasized respect and partnership in marriage, noting that his wife plays an important leadership role within the home.
“I came to speak with my wife first because she had to know about it. You own the home and your reactions matter.”
He further stated clearly:
“My wife is the head of my family.”
His remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with many users debating his perspective on family structure, respect, and decision-making within marriage.
