A Nigerian woman has gone viral after sharing how she earns steady daily income by charging mobile phones using solar power.
According to her, the small-scale business has become a dependable source of livelihood, especially with the ongoing challenge of inconsistent electricity supply in many communities. She revealed that in just one day, she made as much as ₦12,000 from charging phones for people around her area.
Breaking down her earnings, she explained how she manages the money allocating a portion to her children’s needs, saving some, and using the rest for small household expenses.

She also pointed out that the lack of stable public power supply has unintentionally created opportunities for individuals who can provide alternative energy solutions like solar charging services.
Sharing her excitement, she said in pidgin:
“As far as charging phones with solar is allowed in Nigeria, NEPA we no go gree make them bring light. Imagine, from just charging of phones, just today own o… I don make 12 thousand today. 5 thousand go go my children side, 5 thousand go go our box. The remaining 2,000 na for biscuits and sweets for the kids. One man’s food na another man’s poison.”
Her story has since sparked reactions online, with many praising her hustle and others pointing out how unreliable electricity continues to drive innovation and survival strategies among Nigerians.
“NEPA, please don’t bother giving us electricity in our village, I’m making good money by charging people’s phones with my solar setup at my shop.”😭🙆
