A social media influencer has sparked debate online after criticising Nigerian disc jockey and media personality DJ Cuppy over a viral post celebrating her sister’s pregnancy.

Sharing her excitement with followers, DJ Cuppy posted a photo with Temi’s baby bump and expressed her joy about becoming an aunt.

Influencer questions wording
Amid the celebrations, an X influencer drew attention to the wording of Cuppy’s post, arguing that it did not reflect the standard of English expected from someone with her academic background.
The influencer suggested that the phrase should have been written as “I am” or “I’m going to be an aunty,” referencing her education at Oxford University.
“‘I am’ or ‘I’m’ (going to be an auntyyyyy). Remember you are an Oxford graduate,” the influencer wrote.
The comment triggered mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing that public figures should pay attention to grammar, while others argued that social media posts are often informal and not subject to strict language rules.
Cuppy’s academic achievements
DJ Cuppy, whose real name is Florence Otedola, graduated from Oxford University in 2022 with a Master’s degree in African Studies.
At the time, she shared her excitement and gratitude with followers, describing the achievement as a proud moment despite not graduating with a distinction or merit.
The degree marked her second master’s qualification, having previously earned a Master’s degree in Music Business from New York University in 2015.
She also holds a degree in Economics and Business from King’s College London.
