A Nigerian man has left social media buzzing after sharing how he turned down a full scholarship to study overseas — and ultimately lost his girlfriend in the process.
The man, identified as @TJKings01 on X (formerly Twitter), explained that during his National Diploma (ND) days, he was in a serious relationship. When he received an opportunity to study abroad, he informed his family, who supported his decision.
However, his girlfriend reportedly reacted negatively.
“You’re going to leave me in Nigeria after all we’ve been through together because of some scholarship,” she allegedly said.
Feeling pressured, he eventually declined the scholarship to stay in the country. But life had other plans: his girlfriend later got admitted to university via direct entry, against what they had initially planned. Shortly after, she ended the relationship, citing that long-distance didn’t work for her.
“Fast forward to after our ND graduation, this girl did direct entry to Benin as against what we planned. She later called me one day and called off the relationship, claiming that long distance doesn’t work for her,” he wrote.
The post, which included screenshots of his conversation with his girlfriend about the scholarship, has sparked discussions on love, sacrifice, and the tough choices people make for relationships.
