A Nigerian soldier has raised fresh concerns over the country’s security situation following the killing of senior military officer, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, in a recent terrorist attack in Borno State.
The soldier expressed worry that many Nigerians are not fully aware of the severity of the current security challenges, warning that the nation is facing a critical situation.
He noted that public attention is often diverted to entertainment and social media discussions, while serious national threats continue to escalate.
According to him, the situation has become more alarming as even high-ranking military officers are now being targeted, raising concerns about the safety of both security personnel and civilians.
He also pointed to operational challenges within the military, suggesting that delays in logistics and response coordination can affect field operations.
In his words:
“When soldiers dey fight they call for backup, you go hear excuses like the pilot wey suppose take off no dey seat. People don’t understand right now that Nigerian right now we are at war…”
He further questioned the scale of the country’s security preparedness, referencing the visibility of military equipment and operations during official movements, and urging citizens to take the situation more seriously.
Reports confirm that Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and several soldiers were killed during a coordinated terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State, on April 9, 2026.
The attack reportedly occurred overnight, with insurgents briefly breaching the base before troops repelled them and regained control of the situation.
The incident has once again raised concerns over ongoing insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria.
