A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after calling out what he described as a common attitude among some Nigerians living abroad.
In a video circulating on social media, he expressed frustration over how certain individuals change their behaviour after relocating, especially in the way they communicate with people back home.
According to him, people who were once responsive suddenly become distant, taking days to reply messages and often responding in a manner he considers dismissive.
He also criticised what he described as an unnecessary “forming busy” attitude, noting that many of these individuals work regular jobs yet still act too occupied to maintain basic communication.
Speaking in the video, he said:
“There’s this attitude I really dislike, especially from some Nigerians abroad. Once they leave Nigeria, they start acting like they’re unreachable.
You send them a message, and it takes days—sometimes up to five days—for them to reply. And when they finally do, it’s just brief, dry responses like ‘hello’ or ‘I’m fine,’ as if you’re disturbing them or asking for money.
Meanwhile, I have relatives abroad that I speak with almost every day without any issue. But some people, even those doing regular jobs, still act too busy to respond.
The surprising part is that these same people were easy to talk to when they were still in Nigeria. But the moment they relocate, their attitude changes completely, and they start acting distant for no real reason.”
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that relocation sometimes changes people’s behaviour, while others argued that lifestyle differences and work demands abroad can affect communication patterns.
