A young Nigerian man has touched many hearts online after sharing how his relationship came to an unexpected and painful end when his UK student visa was denied while his girlfriend’s application was approved.
A Shared Dream Cut Short
According to him, their love story began at Elegushi Beach, where he asked her out. What started as a simple relationship quickly grew into something deeper, with both of them planning a future together.
As part of those plans, they applied for the same master’s degree programme in the United Kingdom. He recalled how they sat side by side in a cybercafé, filling out their application forms with hope and excitement, believing they were about to start a new chapter together.
However, things took a heartbreaking turn when the embassy approved his girlfriend’s visa but rejected his.
An Emotional Goodbye
Despite the setback, his girlfriend offered to stay back so they could reapply together the following year. But he refused, insisting she should not sacrifice her dreams because of his situation.
Their final moments together were spent at an airport food court, where emotions ran high. He described how they tried to act normal, forcing themselves to eat while holding back tears.
“We sat there eating in silence. I kept talking about things like buying a winter coat, just to stop myself from asking her to stay,” he shared.
When her flight was announced, she hugged him tightly and told him she loved him. Overwhelmed by the moment, he said he couldn’t bring himself to say it back, knowing things might never be the same.
“I just told her to walk inside and not look back,” he added.
A Love Story Interrupted
After she left, he returned to their empty table and watched as her flight was called, marking the end of a chapter they had both dreamed of.
Reflecting on the situation, he expressed his pain, noting that their relationship didn’t end because of betrayal or conflict, but due to circumstances beyond their control.
“We didn’t cheat, we didn’t fight. A system that doesn’t care about love just decided our story was over,” he wrote.
