A lady has shared the reason she ended her relationship with a man after what was meant to be a special birthday surprise turned into an embarrassing and disappointing experience.
The story, posted on X (formerly Twitter) by @Priye644455, revealed how a birthday outing she had looked forward to ended in shock after she was unexpectedly asked to pay the bill for both of them.
According to her, the man had repeatedly asked what she wanted for her birthday. Rather than requesting anything expensive, she said she simply asked for something thoughtful and surprising.
“I once stopped talking to a man because of what happened on my birthday. He kept asking me what gift I wanted, and I told him I just wanted something thoughtful — a surprise. Nothing expensive,” she wrote.
She explained that on her birthday, he asked her to dress up because he had planned a surprise for her, which left her excited and hopeful for the evening ahead.
The man eventually took her to a restaurant where they enjoyed dinner together, laughing and having what seemed like a great time.
“This man took me to a restaurant, ordered food, ate happily, laughed with me the entire night,” she recalled.
However, things took an unexpected turn when the bill arrived.
“Then when the bill came, he looked at me and said, ‘Your surprise is that I’m teaching you not to depend on men.’”
The lady admitted she initially thought he was joking, only to realise he was completely serious.
“I thought he was joking. He wasn’t,” she said.
Feeling embarrassed and unwilling to cause a scene in public, she said she ended up paying for both of them.
“I paid for both of us because I was too embarrassed to argue in public.”
According to her, the situation became even more frustrating after she got home and received a message from him praising her reaction.
“When I got home, he texted: ‘You’re wife material. You handled that maturely.’”
She revealed that she immediately blocked him after the incident, insisting that his behaviour showed he was not ready for a serious relationship.
“I blocked him immediately. He’s not ready to be a man.”
