“Don’t Lower Your Standard” — Clinic’s Reply to First-Class FUTA Graduate’s Job Application Goes Viral

An unusual response received by a first-class graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), after applying for a job at a Lagos clinic has sparked widespread reactions online.

The story surfaced after a social media user, identified as @_raesparkles, shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation involving her friend’s job application.

According to the post, the graduate had applied for a position at a clinic in Lagos with the hope of relocating and starting her career.

“My friend wanted to come work in Lagos so she applied to a clinic and she got this response,” the caption read.

However, the clinic’s reply took many by surprise. While politely declining the application, the message encouraged the applicant not to settle for less than her qualifications.

“Hey Linda. First class hons? There is something better for you. Please don’t lower your standard. All the best,” the message reportedly stated.

The response quickly went viral due to its unexpected tone, with many social media users debating whether it was encouraging, discouraging, or simply unusual in a professional setting.

The applicant, identified as Linda Omotayo Aisida, is said to have studied Physiology at FUTA, where she reportedly graduated with first-class honours on November 12, 2024.

While some users praised the clinic for acknowledging her academic achievement and advising her to aim higher, others questioned the practicality of such a response in a job market where graduates are often eager to accept available opportunities.

The post has since continued to generate conversations across social media platforms, with many reflecting on employment challenges and expectations for high-achieving graduates.
