Woman Recounts 2006 Kidnapping by Friend’s Boyfriend, Urges Young Women to Trust Their Instincts

A woman has shared the traumatic experience of being kidnapped in 2006 by the boyfriend of a close friend, using her story as a powerful reminder for young women to trust their instincts and prioritize their safety.

Reflecting on the ordeal while expressing concern for people currently facing abduction across the country, she revealed that although the incident lasted less than three hours, it left emotional scars that have stayed with her for years.

How It Happened

According to her, she first met the man through her friend and had no reason to believe he posed any threat. He appeared calm, friendly, and caring whenever he was around her friend, giving her no cause for suspicion.

Things took a frightening turn when he offered to give her a ride.

Recalling the events of that day, she explained that she convinced her friend to accompany her. However, moments after they entered the vehicle, the situation changed dramatically.

“I was kidnapped in 2006, not by strangers, but by the boyfriend of my friend,” she recalled. “I met him through my friend, and he always seemed nice and calm whenever he was around her. I never saw any red flags. He appeared caring and was always concerned about me.

“He offered to give me a ride, and I remember convincing my friend to come along. But as soon as we entered the car, everything changed. I was slapped so hard that I had never experienced anything like it before.

“The ordeal lasted less than three hours, but even today, I cannot imagine what the girls who are currently kidnapped are going through. Please, I want to beg every young woman out there: do not ignore your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t go. Trust your gut. Do not become a victim.”

A Message for Young Women

Using her experience as a cautionary tale, she urged young women to remain vigilant, even when dealing with people introduced by trusted friends or acquaintances.

Her story has sparked conversations online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and emphasizing the importance of personal safety and situational awareness.

Others expressed sympathy for victims of kidnapping and commended her courage in speaking publicly about a painful chapter of her life.

As security concerns continue to dominate public discourse, her message has resonated with many Nigerians, particularly young women navigating unfamiliar relationships and situations. Her experience serves as a reminder that danger does not always come from strangers and that listening to one’s instincts can sometimes make all the difference.
