Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has stirred fresh political debate after stating that any attempt by former presidential candidate Peter Obi to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could raise serious concerns about his intentions.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo reacted to growing speculation surrounding Obi’s future within the party, especially amid ongoing coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, leaving the ADC at this critical stage would undermine the credibility of the opposition movement and could be interpreted as a sign of political compromise.
“If he leaves, will he now be a mobile squadron? Anybody that leaves ADC for another party is a mobile squatter,” he said.
Okonkwo further stressed that the opposition is currently focused on building unity, and any key figure exiting the coalition could weaken efforts to challenge the ruling party.
He went on to make a stronger claim, suggesting that such a move could indirectly favour President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Anybody that goes out of the coalition is compromised and is working for Tinubu, whoever that person is,” he added.
His remarks come at a time when several political heavyweights, including Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, are reportedly involved in coalition discussions under the ADC platform.
While Peter Obi remains a major figure within the opposition space, uncertainty over party alignment and ticket ambitions continues to fuel conversations across Nigeria’s political landscape.
The development has since sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters and critics debating loyalty, strategy, and the future of opposition politics ahead of 2027.
