The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially set the stage for the 2027 elections, announcing May 15 and 16, 2026, as the dates for its presidential primary.
According to the party’s timetable, the process will kick off with the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms between April 25 and May 2, with submission closing on May 4.
But what has really caught attention is the cost.
Presidential aspirants under the APC will need to pay a total of ₦100 million — ₦30 million for expression of interest and ₦70 million for the nomination form.
The party also outlined a full schedule leading up to the primaries, including screening of aspirants from May 6 to 8, publication of results on May 11, and an appeal window from May 12 to 13.
Other primary elections are also lined up:
- House of Representatives — May 18
- Senate — May 20
- State Assembly — May 21
- Governorship — May 23
Interestingly, the party noted that female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities will receive some concessions, paying only for the expression of interest form and 50% of the nomination fee.
While no aspirant has officially declared for the presidential race yet, several party stakeholders have already shown support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of a possible second-term bid.
The announcement has sparked conversations around the high cost of political participation and what it means for inclusivity in Nigeria’s democratic process.
