Good news? The naira did not crash today. Bad news? It is not celebrating either. 😅

On Friday, May 8, 2026, the official market traded at about ₦1,366 per dollar. That is almost the same as earlier this week. No big jump. No big drop. Just steady. 🧘🏽

Over at the black market, the dollar sold for between ₦1,395 and ₦1,400. That means if you walk into any market in Lagos or Abuja today, you are paying close to ₦1,400 for one dollar. 💵

The good part? The gap between official and black market rates is still small. That tells you the Central Bank’s efforts are working at least for now. 🏦

The not-so-good part? Demand is still high. Importers. Travelers. Businesses. Everyone needs dollars. And until that pressure reduces, the naira cannot truly rest. 😔

So what is the takeaway? The naira is not falling apart. But it is not flying either. Just standing in place. Watching. Waiting. Hoping for better days. 🇳🇬
