Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to speak out against the country’s worsening challenges, especially the persistent electricity crisis and poor governance.
Speaking at the NDC, Obi compared Nigeria’s electricity situation with that of South Africa. According to him, South Africa generates over 40,000 megawatts of electricity, yet citizens still openly demand better services, while Nigeria struggles with barely 4,000 megawatts and many people remain silent.
He stressed that Nigerians must begin holding leaders accountable and stop accepting poor governance as the norm. Obi warned that the current state of the country is unsustainable and said future generations should not be left to suffer the consequences of failed leadership.
He also maintained that citizens have the democratic power to demand accountability from public officials, insisting that Nigeria must work for the benefit of its people and not a privileged few.

“I was in South Africa, they have over 40,000 megawatts of electricity and yet people are complaining about lack of power. In Nigeria, we have just 4,000 megawatts and we are not complaining enough.
This is the time for us to speak up. What I’m seeing now can be changed. Those who refused to count our votes, we will count them with our voices and actions. Our children cannot continue like this. This country must work, and people can no longer take Nigerians for granted.”
