Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington has sparked reactions online after sharing his thoughts on marriage and financially successful women.

The controversial singer made the comments during a recent social media discussion, where he argued that women who have built multimillion-naira wealth through personal effort may find it difficult to fully submit in a marriage.

According to him, financial power can influence relationship dynamics and traditional expectations within marriage.

“I don’t believe that a woman worth multimillions would submit from her heart in a marriage. Power does not like to submit,” he said.

He further explained that women who attain significant financial success understand the sacrifices required to reach that level, making it difficult for them to fully accept traditional marital roles.

“She knows what it cost her to get to that level. She go just submit keh, I no believe am,” he added.

The comments quickly triggered mixed reactions online. While some users agreed that financial independence can affect relationship dynamics, others criticized the statement as outdated and unfair to successful women.

Many commenters argued that mutual respect, communication, and partnership are more important in modern relationships than rigid gender expectations.

Others defended Speed Darlington’s perspective, insisting that wealth and power naturally influence behavior regardless of gender.

Debates around submission, gender roles, and financial independence continue to generate conversations on Nigerian social media, especially as more women rise in business, politics, and entertainment.
