Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has expressed surprise after discovering that football fans were required to pay $30 to watch a FIFA World Cup match from a fan viewing area in Dallas, United States.
The actor shared his experience in a video posted on his Facebook page while attending a fan festival for Wednesday’s Group K clash between Democratic Republic of the Congo and Portugal.
A Viewing Centre Experience — But at a Cost
According to Ikedieze, the fee was charged to fans watching the match on giant screens outside the stadium rather than from seats inside the venue.
While showcasing the lively atmosphere at the fan festival, the actor explained that the setup allowed supporters to enjoy the game in an environment that closely replicated the excitement of being inside the stadium.
Speaking to his followers, he expressed amazement at the cost of admission.
“People who have come to watch the match, not even in the stadium. This is just the outside; this is where they put big screens. Do you know how much they are charging us? $30, that’s about ₦40,000.”
Despite his surprise, Ikedieze acknowledged that the fan zone still delivered an impressive match-day experience.
“We are heading to the fan festival in Dallas. This is where we can watch the match. And it still feels like you are in the stadium. It’s like a viewing centre in Nigeria.”
Security and Parking Costs Also Raise Eyebrows
The actor also pointed out the extensive security arrangements around the venue, noting the visible presence of law enforcement officers.
In addition, he revealed that visitors had to pay extra for parking, adding to the overall cost of attending the event.
“Police are everywhere. The car park here is $30, bro. $30 to come and watch a game. This is America.”
