Labour Party Endorses Chibuzo Okereke as 2027 Presidential Candidate

The Labour Party has officially endorsed Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, citing overwhelming support from party leaders, members, and stakeholders.

The endorsement was announced after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on May 30, 2026, where party officials unanimously backed Okereke as the party’s flagbearer for the next presidential election.

Following his confirmation, Okereke called on Nigerians to renew their faith in the country, stressing that governance—not politics—should be the primary focus of leadership.

“Politics should not be the purpose of government; governance should be the purpose of government,” he said.

According to him, effective leadership must be centered on improving the lives of citizens through enhanced security, economic growth, social development, and the restoration of trust in public institutions. He added that government policies should uphold the dignity of citizens while creating opportunities for economic advancement.

“We believe that when Nigerians succeed, Nigeria prospers. People and governance must come before politics,” he stated.

Okereke expressed concern over what he described as a growing crisis of confidence among Nigerians, noting that many citizens have lost faith in government institutions and the country’s future.

“Nigeria faces not only economic, security, and institutional challenges but also a crisis of confidence. Millions of Nigerians have lost faith in their country’s future. Many no longer believe in government, trust in institutions, or the principle of merit,” he said.

He argued that successive administrations have focused more on maintaining the machinery of the state than on improving the well-being of the people.

“Our greatest asset is not oil, minerals, land, or government infrastructure. Our greatest asset is our people. Government and democracy must deliver happiness, opportunity, and dignity to Nigerians wherever they may be,” he added.

The Labour Party candidate pledged that, if elected, his administration would place citizens at the center of governance, with a strong focus on education, healthcare, security, and economic productivity.

He emphasized that sustainable nation-building depends on leadership that empowers citizens and creates opportunities for long-term growth and development.

“When citizens are educated, healthy, secure, productive, and empowered, the nation thrives. But when they are neglected, divided, and excluded, the country suffers,” he said.

Okereke also highlighted several pressing challenges facing Nigeria, including the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment, declining purchasing power, inadequate infrastructure, energy shortages, high maternal and infant mortality rates, and the growing number of out-of-school children.

Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its difficulties through innovative policies, strategic investments, and people-focused governance.

“These are real challenges, but they also present real opportunities for transformative solutions and sustainable development,” he said.
