The police officer who went viral for threatening to shoot anyone who filmed him on duty has come forward to apologize. And his emotional plea is now making rounds online.
Newton Isokpehi, the officer in the controversial video, posted a fresh TikTok video on Thursday. He explained that his threat came from frustration, not genuine malice.
“Please forgive me. If I offended you as a brother, forgive me. That statement was just out of annoyance because of the things that are happening. These things are painful.”
He clarified that citizens are actually allowed to record police officers on duty. But he argued that some people have taken it too far.
Then he did something that left many viewers emotional. He showed scars and gunshot wounds on his body.
“Look at my body, these are all bullets. These are all gunshot wounds. See my chest, bullet has eaten into it. Out of 17 of us, only two survived that operation. We have suffered in this work.”
He insisted he never intended to harm civilians. “How can I be saying I will kill my own people? We don’t do that. I spoke out of annoyance. That one was just verbal talk.”
He appealed directly to rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu and begged all Nigerians for forgiveness.
The internet is reacting. One person wrote: “He showed his scars. That man has seen real war. I forgive him.” Another said: “Verbal threat or not, he should still face consequences. Frustration is not an excuse.”
Someone else added: “Out of 17, only two survived. That is heavy. He has been through a lot.”
A different voice said: “He apologized. That takes courage. Many officers would never humble themselves like this.”
