Political aide Ossai Ovie Success has criticised social media activist VeryDarkMan following his return to Nigeria amid widespread speculation that he could face arrest upon arrival.
In a statement shared on social media, Ossai argued that supporters who gathered at the airport to welcome the activist were mobilised based on fears of a possible arrest that never materialised.
According to him, VeryDarkMan may have anticipated being detained and gaining public sympathy from the incident, but events unfolded differently.
Ossai maintained that if security agencies genuinely intended to arrest someone, the presence of supporters at the airport would not be enough to prevent such action.
Expressing his disappointment over the situation, he questioned the purpose of the mobilisation and suggested that the anticipated confrontation never existed in the first place.
In his words:
“VeryDarkMan mobilized people to come to the airport to protect him from arrest, but he was in for a shock: nobody planned to arrest him.
“He wanted to be arrested to trend and twist the narrative to look like he was being targeted for speaking against Tinubu’s second-term bid.
“Guess what? He was disappointed.
“But let it be known: if the authorities wanted to arrest VeryDarkMan, they would arrest him. None of the people he mobilized would have stopped it.
“I am disappointed.”
The remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters and critics of the activist debating the motive behind the airport gathering and the broader conversation surrounding his return to the country.
