Marc Cucurella Leaves Chelsea for Real Madrid in €60m Move
Chelsea have confirmed the permanent departure of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella, who has completed a transfer to Real Madrid in a deal worth a reported €55 million, with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses.
The 27-year-old brings an end to his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge and returns to Spain, where he has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032.
End of Chelsea Chapter
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2022 and went on to become a regular feature in the squad during his time in West London.
During his spell with the Blues, the left-back contributed to the club’s success in the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, while also maintaining his place in the Spain national team setup.
He was also part of the Spanish squad that won the UEFA European Championship in 2024.
Following the completion of the transfer, Chelsea paid tribute to the defender for his contribution to the club.
“Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements. We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career.”
Real Madrid Add Experience to Defence
Real Madrid have strengthened their defensive options with the signing of an experienced international player who arrives with proven pedigree in both the Premier League and on the international stage.
Cucurella, known for his versatility at left-back and wing-back, is expected to provide depth and competition within the squad as the club prepares for the new season.
His move also marks the beginning of a new challenge at one of Europe’s biggest clubs, following successful spells in England with Brighton and Chelsea.
The transfer brings an end to his time in English football and opens a fresh chapter in his career at Real Madrid, where expectations will be high as he settles into life in Spain once again.
